Star Wars set for Avatar-style makeover

Posted by admin with 4 Comments

Call it the Avatar effect but ’Star Wars’, one of the most popular film franchises of all time, would soon be given a modern make-over and converted into 3D.

Director George Lucas has hinted that the new advances in technology mean it is now a possibility to see all six films re-made, Daily Mail online reported.

’Star Wars Episode II’ stars Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen could be on the big screen again in polished versions of the cult films.

Lucas said that he had initially thought of the idea after finishing the last Star Wars film, ‘The Revenge of the Sith’, in 2005. But he was convinced about the idea after watching blockbuster Avatar, which picked up two Golden Globes last week.

“We’ve been looking for years to do this but the technology hasn’t been there. I think this will be a new impetus to make that happen,” Lucas said.

’Avatar’, which cost more than 300m pounds to make, has shattered box-office records and is on the verge of taking 1 billion pounds at the box office since its release at Christmas.

“I liked it. I make movies like that, so I can appreciate what James Cameron went through to do it. It worked well in 3D and I’m happy it’s so successful,” he added.

Lucas, 65, is planning to begin work on converting the Star Wars films later this year.

Since its release in 1977, Star Wars has become a cult phenomenon, having grossed more than 2 billion pounds.

Voice-over actors give life to Cartoon Network’s ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’

They are the most unrecognizable actors in a galaxy far, far away.

Audiences generally associate Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor in the roles of the famously iconic Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi. But, the truth is, other actors have inhabited those roles in far more performances, yet you’ll never know what they look like.

They are voice-over actors, men and women who bring these Jedi Knights to life each week in the computer-animated series, “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.”

And that’s just the way they like it.

The Scent of Hayden Christensen

Posted by admin with 4 Comments

Legendary fashion brand LACOSTE has signed Canadian actor Hayden Christensen as the face of its new male fragrance, launching in September. Christensen’s playful charm, active persona and casual elegance make him the natural embodiment of the brand’s youthful, modern edge.

“We’re delighted to be working with Hayden as the face of the new male fragrance from LACOSTE as he perfectly captures the modern spirit of the brand. He’s young, stylish and dynamic, with a charismatic twinkle in his eye that perfectly brings to life the ethos of the new fragrance.” Andreas Gerber, Global Marketing Director, LACOSTE Fragrances.

Most recently, Christensen starred in Doug Liman’s ‘Jumper’, alongside Samuel L Jackson, Rachel Bilson and Jamie Bell; but he is perhaps best known for his role as Anakin Skywalker in George Lucas’s blockbuster epics ‘Star Wars Episode 2: Attack of the Clones’ and ‘Star Wars Episode 3: Return of the Sith’.

Christensen’s other film credits include George Hickenlooper’s ‘Factory Girl’ in which he played Bob Dylan, Sofia Coppola’s ‘The Virgin Suicides’, Sarah Kernochan’s ‘All I Wanna Do’ and John Carpenter’s ‘In the Mouth of Madness’.

For his performance in 2001 ‘Life As A House’, Christensen received the award for Best Breakthrough Performance from the National Board of Review, and was nominated for a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award.

Christensen will next be seen starring in ‘New York, I Love You’ opposite Hollywood heavyweights Orlando Bloom, Julie Christie, Kevin Bacon, Ethan Hawke, Natalie Portman, Rachel Bilson and Shia LaBeouf. ‘New York, I Love You’ is scheduled for released in 2009.

US Stars Who Are Actually Canadian

Posted by admin with Comments Off

Betcha didn’t know these guys came from north of the border, eh?

So this week American Sandra Bullock plays a Canadian who wishes she was American in The Proposal, opposite Canadian Ryan Reynolds, playing an American who lives in a part of the US that’s practically Canada anyway (Alaska). All this national confusion inspired us to take a look at some ersatz-Americans who are in fact Canadians. Read on for moose-lovers and Mounties galore…

Hayden Christensen
Born: Vancouver, British Columbia
In his Canadian youth, the young Christensen was a ball boy at the Canadian Open, and at one point angered the usually mild-mannered McEnroe by stepping out for a ball too early. It’s said that it was in reaction to the ensuing tantrum that he went on to turn to the Dark Side and become Darth Vader, but of course we can’t confirm or deny that that was the cause.

Fun Canada Fact! IMAX was invented by four Canadians, Graeme Ferguson, Roman Kroitor, Nicholas Mulders, and William C. Shaw.

STAR WARS MIMOBOTS

Posted by admin with Comments Off

Mimoco’s STAR WARS MIMOBOT line of designer flash drives will explore the dark side with an all-new collection, featuring fan favorite Sith Lords and new versions of classic designs. In addition to the previously announced Darth Maul design, the fourth installment of the popular USB devices will also include a re-imagining of the original MIMOBOT series centerpiece Darth Vader. The new Darth Vader Unmasked MIMOBOT features a removable helmet, underneath which lurks the scarred countenance of Anakin Skywalker, as played by Hayden Christensen. For added excitement, one in six Darth Vader MIMOBOT drives will unveil chase variants of Anakin’s face from Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi older, paler and at peace, having come to terms with his estranged son Luke.

Completing the cycle later this summer as a San Diego Comic Con exclusive, Mimoco will release a third, limited-edition version of Darth Vader Unmasked. When the helmet is removed, the unmasked visage will be the face of Luke Skywalker, as Luke imagined himself on Dagobah in Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. Only 500 Darth Vader Unmasked Luke Skywalker MIMOBOT drives will be produced and they will only be available at Mimoco’s Comic Con booth #2913 in the STAR WARS Pavilion on July 22 - 26.

Ten Of The Best Star Wars Moments

Posted by admin with Comments Off

9. ORDER 66
The moment when every single Jedi becomes an enemy of the Republic you knew it was coming but nothing can quite prepare us for the carnage that follows and the sheer amount of death and destruction that is reaped by the newly dubbed Darth Vader. The Star Wars movies are often at their best when the Empire has the upper hand and here it is in complete control. Younglings are slaughtered, Wookiees executed and even powerful Jedi Master Yoda falls at the hands of Emperor Palpatine. A dark day for the Jedi but this only serves to make the inevitable Rebel comeback all the sweeter.

TV Alert

Posted by admin with Comments Off

As I told you a few updates ago, MTV will air all six episodes of Star Wars this weekend!!!

What are you doing this weekend? Actually, don’t answer that. I’ll tell you what you’re doing this weekend. As a Memorial Day weekend treat and lead-in to this Sunday’s episode of Behind the Screen, MTV will be running all six Star Wars movies between Saturday and Monday. If you’ve seen George Lucas epic space fantasy, then you know exactly why you should be tuning in. If you don’t well here are all the reasons you need to settle in with some popcorn for a long, lazy weekend in front of the TV.

Darth Vader livesThe Fall of Anakin Skywalker

Hardcore Star Wars fans like me have some issues with George Lucas’s approach to the most recent trilogy, starting with 1999′s The Phantom Menace. Wherever your opinions fall with regards to the new movies, it’s hard to say a foul word against Anakin Skywalker’s (Hayden Christensen) beautifully orchestrated descent into the Dark Side of the Force. In addition to be able to witness the birth of Darth Vader, Revenge of the Sith’s climactic lightsaber duel between Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) and Skywalker, his former pupil, adds new context to A New Hope’s the first movie released in the series rematch saber duel.

There’s one final reason you should tune in for this weekend’s .Star Wars. marathon on MTV. On Sunday night at 11pm, right after .Episode IV. ends, you’ll be able to get some insider Hollywood scoops on the latest episode of Behind the Screen.
