Star Wars set for Avatar-style makeover

Posted by admin with 4 Comments

Call it the Avatar effect but ’Star Wars’, one of the most popular film franchises of all time, would soon be given a modern make-over and converted into 3D.

Director George Lucas has hinted that the new advances in technology mean it is now a possibility to see all six films re-made, Daily Mail online reported.

’Star Wars Episode II’ stars Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen could be on the big screen again in polished versions of the cult films.

Lucas said that he had initially thought of the idea after finishing the last Star Wars film, ‘The Revenge of the Sith’, in 2005. But he was convinced about the idea after watching blockbuster Avatar, which picked up two Golden Globes last week.

“We’ve been looking for years to do this but the technology hasn’t been there. I think this will be a new impetus to make that happen,” Lucas said.

’Avatar’, which cost more than 300m pounds to make, has shattered box-office records and is on the verge of taking 1 billion pounds at the box office since its release at Christmas.

“I liked it. I make movies like that, so I can appreciate what James Cameron went through to do it. It worked well in 3D and I’m happy it’s so successful,” he added.

Lucas, 65, is planning to begin work on converting the Star Wars films later this year.

Since its release in 1977, Star Wars has become a cult phenomenon, having grossed more than 2 billion pounds.

New/Old Articles

Posted by admin with Comments Off

I’ve added two more old/new articles from 2002 and 2008. Both have been added to the Press Archive as well!

Unafraid of the Dark
Ready, Jedi, go! Plucked from relative obscurity to star in what will certainly be one of the biggest movies of all time, Hayden Christensen will soon be seen as Anakin Skywalker — the young Darth Vader originally played by Jake Lloyd — in ”Star Wars: Episode II — Attack of the Clones,” as well as in ”Episode III” (due in 2005). Here, the 20-year-old Christensen, currently performing on the London stage in Kenneth Lonergan’s ”This Is Our Youth,” talks about fake tans, instant celebrity, and the return of that jabbering alien.

You costarred in last year’s ”Life as a House” and are in the middle of a pretty tough play. Do you feel pressure to showcase your versatility before this role defines you?
I’m just letting it be. You can’t control how the public sees you or wants to see you. I’m going to go after the roles I want to play. Still, actors are associated with one or two roles. People say, ”De Niro? ‘Raging Bull’ or ‘Taxi Driver.”’ But I think Darth Vader is a cool role to be defined by.

Hollywood movie shot at RNC

‘Jumper,’ a Hollywood movie directed by Doug Liman, is to be released this spring. A scene for the movie was filmed at the RIKEN Nishina Center for Accelerator-Based Science (RNC) in February last year. Almost 100 members of staff traveled to the center, including Liman, renowned for his film ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’, and actor Hayden Christensen, of ‘Star Wars: Episode II—Revenge of the Sith’. Filming started at 7 am and wrapped up at 2 am the next day.

Voice-over actors give life to Cartoon Network’s ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’

They are the most unrecognizable actors in a galaxy far, far away.

Audiences generally associate Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor in the roles of the famously iconic Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi. But, the truth is, other actors have inhabited those roles in far more performances, yet you’ll never know what they look like.

They are voice-over actors, men and women who bring these Jedi Knights to life each week in the computer-animated series, “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.”

And that’s just the way they like it.

TV Alert

Posted by admin with Comments Off

As I told you a few updates ago, MTV will air all six episodes of Star Wars this weekend!!!

What are you doing this weekend? Actually, don’t answer that. I’ll tell you what you’re doing this weekend. As a Memorial Day weekend treat and lead-in to this Sunday’s episode of Behind the Screen, MTV will be running all six Star Wars movies between Saturday and Monday. If you’ve seen George Lucas epic space fantasy, then you know exactly why you should be tuning in. If you don’t well here are all the reasons you need to settle in with some popcorn for a long, lazy weekend in front of the TV.

Darth Vader livesThe Fall of Anakin Skywalker

Hardcore Star Wars fans like me have some issues with George Lucas’s approach to the most recent trilogy, starting with 1999′s The Phantom Menace. Wherever your opinions fall with regards to the new movies, it’s hard to say a foul word against Anakin Skywalker’s (Hayden Christensen) beautifully orchestrated descent into the Dark Side of the Force. In addition to be able to witness the birth of Darth Vader, Revenge of the Sith’s climactic lightsaber duel between Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) and Skywalker, his former pupil, adds new context to A New Hope’s the first movie released in the series rematch saber duel.

There’s one final reason you should tune in for this weekend’s .Star Wars. marathon on MTV. On Sunday night at 11pm, right after .Episode IV. ends, you’ll be able to get some insider Hollywood scoops on the latest episode of Behind the Screen.
