New York, I Love You Reviews

Posted by admin with 1 Comment

From Roger Ebert-

The rules: No more than two days’ shooting time. One week of editing. An eight-minute time limit. Ten directors, and one more to consider the 10 short films and create transitions. “New York, I Love You” is the second installment in an ambitious project that began with “Paris, Je T’aime” (2006), an anthology with 13 directors. Rio is said to be next.

I suspect the title isn’t intended as a simple declaration, but should be pronounced in a wondering tone, with a wry shake of the head, as in, “oh, you kid.” The film assembles a collection of colorful characters, who find that eight minutes is quite enough to make an impression, as so many New Yorkers would agree.

Our thoughts: I absolutely love “New York, I Love You,” and I don’t just say that because I love New York as a city. Much like its beautiful predecessor “Paris, je t’aime,” this wonderful cinematic anthology of short films set in the Big Apple proves that especially genius screenwriting and strong acting can create a truly memorable big-screen experience.

“New York, I Love You” boasts a series of simple short films written and directed by different filmmakers from all over the world, and much like the city itself, the movie carries a strong multicultural character I found very easy to appreciate and enjoy. Even though each of these shorts clearly differs in style, they all flow together really well packed into one feature.

Hayden Christensen bonds with WXYZ Detroit news staff on set of ‘Vanishing on 7th Street’

A new horror film starring Hayden Christensen and Thandie Newton is filming in Detroit — and incorporating a Detroit TV station into the film.

091015

The newsroom of WXYZ is being used as the set for some scenes in the film “Vanishing on 7th Street.”

The movie is about the strange disappearance of nearly an entire city’s population. Hayden Christensen (Anakin Skywalker in “Star Wars: Episode II” and “Episode III”) plays a news reporter covering the story.

Several staff members from channel 7 news will also have small roles in the movie.

Weekend anchor Dave LewAllen will play the role of another reporter. Traffic reporter Erin Nicole plays a meteorologist and Christensen’s character’s girlfriend.

Stephen Clark, Carolyn Clifford and Tom Leyden are also expected to have roles in the film.

His Facebook status once read:

OK, so now I’m really nervous… My scene for the movie, “Vanishing On Seventh Street” is being filmed tomorrow night at Channel 7–and today an almost entirely new script page was emailed over to me. It’s much more involved than the original script. Yikes! It’s been cram city tonight.

Emmanuel Benbihy Loves New York

Posted by admin with 1 Comment

One of the most anticipated movies of the fall, New York, I Love You is made up of several short films revolving around the elusive concept of love. The movie is the second in a planned series called “Cities of Love”—the first being the 2006 international hit, Paris je ta’ime.

Just before the movie’s release on October 16, MM spoke with the series’ hands-on producer, Emmanuel Benbihy.

MM: New York, I Love You, like Paris, je t’aime, gathers together an eclectic group of international moviemakers–from Fatih Akin to Wen Jiang to Mira Nair to Brett Ratner. How does the pre-production process work on an anthology like this? Do writers pitch you story ideas, and then directors come aboard, or do you seek out directors/screenwriters you think would be interesting for the film?

EB: It begins with the story or the idea generated by the director. We begin a project only when it is fully financed. That way we can approach the creative talent with a firm commitment and an extremely attractive opportunity for creative carte blanche. Once they have formulated a concept and they present it to us as a pitch, they have the freedom to bring in the writer, DP, editor and on-camera talent for their segments. The only prerequisites are that they work within the overall subject matter for the film: A love story.
